I somehow ended up finishing these two projects and the <a href="http://patchworkandpins.blogspot.co.uk/2013/02/mushroom-houses.html">Mushroom Houses quilt</a> (more on that in a later post) all in one weekend. It was a little hectic! But good fun.<br />
<br />
The first project was a cushion for my lovely mum-in-law. It was her 60th birthday recently and to celebrate we had a holiday in the Alps in France together, along with assorted family members including <a href="http://patchworkandpins.blogspot.co.uk/2012/06/twice-fun.html">our gorgeous nephews</a>, who are now 2! I thought I'd make a little something for her to remember the holiday by, so I started off with a little mountain scene:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMIYZ4rehr4OuhAZwajaOJGIJC05i6oBR07wqtaIihn5h5gcdNd2qZ29PLrbSFKCbCp6Z1vjmedkqm8K-rGcO-eVPFcV_CBh1SCSgdVa7uMeRmA53JOoCi_FPE0wOJTDrQaR5Tzj7_NSYo/s1600/100_3223.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMIYZ4rehr4OuhAZwajaOJGIJC05i6oBR07wqtaIihn5h5gcdNd2qZ29PLrbSFKCbCp6Z1vjmedkqm8K-rGcO-eVPFcV_CBh1SCSgdVa7uMeRmA53JOoCi_FPE0wOJTDrQaR5Tzj7_NSYo/s400/100_3223.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
And turned it into a cushion:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYPjzX2Ss9x1CHeE9FsdnaaJ0IVplm8580XW7khzjOnS6DTG5eJkoNiOYTAUL4v8k_xoI2iRPhVneXWSIVT7ITn4ITWnIFT07IKaNTLYq7QwLFabbTJs9rl5U4zVk09Wu82u78LIvH_oAt/s1600/100_3248.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYPjzX2Ss9x1CHeE9FsdnaaJ0IVplm8580XW7khzjOnS6DTG5eJkoNiOYTAUL4v8k_xoI2iRPhVneXWSIVT7ITn4ITWnIFT07IKaNTLYq7QwLFabbTJs9rl5U4zVk09Wu82u78LIvH_oAt/s400/100_3248.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
This means I've finally got over my fear of making cushions! I made a practice one first, and took the opportunity to also practice free motion quilting:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitS6GwwsqUt5BFmo4IqDvM1VUTvsdbEkDlZSI3ANHcKiWNyzr_wgmtBVgV3BpUyNjr2w645GGqIAO-UL-4lAzMOAa3myArTRclJUOHPm7DHjrtQjeVS30CUaBOaXbeUWpOHwj1Z3ry86fz/s1600/100_3211.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitS6GwwsqUt5BFmo4IqDvM1VUTvsdbEkDlZSI3ANHcKiWNyzr_wgmtBVgV3BpUyNjr2w645GGqIAO-UL-4lAzMOAa3myArTRclJUOHPm7DHjrtQjeVS30CUaBOaXbeUWpOHwj1Z3ry86fz/s400/100_3211.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOjheq0I7EB67NOrtDDyn_DCzbaB9RhDfiZ2cotOc2xcKz4MJ17Vtt1XCRdqxjc2TKL3ebHbJ6LqXbPe_wuUtM4PaLw_koG3r-NxlhsFMxIQn12j7rTmpSpO86yv8VkWBfMReUAdSWugaB/s1600/100_3212.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOjheq0I7EB67NOrtDDyn_DCzbaB9RhDfiZ2cotOc2xcKz4MJ17Vtt1XCRdqxjc2TKL3ebHbJ6LqXbPe_wuUtM4PaLw_koG3r-NxlhsFMxIQn12j7rTmpSpO86yv8VkWBfMReUAdSWugaB/s400/100_3212.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
I was pretty proud of it! I still need a lot of practice befire attempting it on a full quilt, but I'm hoping it won't be too long before I can manage it.<br />
<br />
The other project was a second pair of <a href="http://patchworkandpins.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/applique-for-men.html">Lego pyjamas</a>. This time round they were for my dad.<br />
<br />

<br />
Fun times :) I'll be popping in again soon to show you the finished Mushroom Houses quilt, along with the start of a new project. See you soon!<br />
<br />
I'll be linking up to <a href="http://crazymomquilts.blogspot.co.uk/">Finish It Up Friday</a> when it comes around :)Emmahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15189215587327958567noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7144893345042373092.post-29736706559526498482013-04-24T19:52:00.002+01:002013-04-24T21:11:04.355+01:00Quilting Round in CirclesHi all :)<br />
<br />
A little while back I asked for thoughts RE quilting this baby:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipAhz9AcJk7TJor82tt_ia6ciN3aAwoO2NCompCt6OckzdYWFwOurTQ9xhseazoHnZMwkf9urYtkl1FfKBjvv-PLk5sqQEwxGLa82aLAd4Nr-e3H5uFF9avAr21JXl1Vlplgy-uIDn0qp9/s1600/100_3110.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipAhz9AcJk7TJor82tt_ia6ciN3aAwoO2NCompCt6OckzdYWFwOurTQ9xhseazoHnZMwkf9urYtkl1FfKBjvv-PLk5sqQEwxGLa82aLAd4Nr-e3H5uFF9avAr21JXl1Vlplgy-uIDn0qp9/s400/100_3110.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
People suggested lots of great ideas, but I was still quite stuck! Finally I decided to go a bit out of the box - and quilt it in circles. Yup, circles. So with the help of a side plate and a vase I mimicked the pattern in the mushrooms-in-circles pattern. Ta-da!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgH7j1XuKEhf-4kDXrhTS98jm_PSN7SESMJlsO1Q0CBLm7wCMd3L0Ttum_nlLXBxAfKVn-Zw8gl1CqixOPAsCvQaluAS00sJ-5UBErt9cTbpOyp8PFBpg3npRc9UewAMi_ziIpKXGYDCdc3/s1600/100_3157.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgH7j1XuKEhf-4kDXrhTS98jm_PSN7SESMJlsO1Q0CBLm7wCMd3L0Ttum_nlLXBxAfKVn-Zw8gl1CqixOPAsCvQaluAS00sJ-5UBErt9cTbpOyp8PFBpg3npRc9UewAMi_ziIpKXGYDCdc3/s400/100_3157.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8n_O1mNGYdz16oTE5aSIrIBLtjlF5JklC29_nXTi94jhHqN2VUsJHn3VUU3SCO4v6dZJBIsjUd-muQaoWOKfkibUo0NQ2mnSPAt-617wuQ_7sJ1SE9Un3fH_4rHVOi2q3fYoDklSbzLab/s1600/100_3156.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8n_O1mNGYdz16oTE5aSIrIBLtjlF5JklC29_nXTi94jhHqN2VUsJHn3VUU3SCO4v6dZJBIsjUd-muQaoWOKfkibUo0NQ2mnSPAt-617wuQ_7sJ1SE9Un3fH_4rHVOi2q3fYoDklSbzLab/s400/100_3156.jpg" width="400" /></a>
</div>
<br />
I practised free motioning circles to see if that would work but although my skills are definitely improving - I reckon I can manage a passable free motion squiggle now - my circles weren't up to scratch, so I used my normal machine foot. And it was really good fun!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5szMe8RmDzu7B4HdjiHVrgtzqV8d0CnvKGw-1wsos7gcu9z3NrtDQ4yWAnUfBxHC4_ZUY9tYWJX-aabGR22NLqdHULnypiTWBsXEYGp6icDhnd0lgfDKxXWPrICMJouyngUR1prkm_gvE/s1600/100_3185.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5szMe8RmDzu7B4HdjiHVrgtzqV8d0CnvKGw-1wsos7gcu9z3NrtDQ4yWAnUfBxHC4_ZUY9tYWJX-aabGR22NLqdHULnypiTWBsXEYGp6icDhnd0lgfDKxXWPrICMJouyngUR1prkm_gvE/s400/100_3185.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
My stitch lengths aren't the most consistent thing in the world, but (a) they're pretty good and (b) I'm pretty sure the baby won't notice. The only downside about this style of quilting was the amount of knots I had to hand-tie and bury. It took ages! Lots of time crawling round on my hands and knees tying them and then trying to bury them securely. I think it was worth it, although I might not be in a rush to do it again.<br />
<br />
The best thing about the quilting is how cool it makes the back look:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwjZve96ffmwtRnTFOoMZamurmhRvT0tgiaksxmrxq8sTiQpWRjCGf8uKi_EdiEN6cQXVXDa8pPNmbdeFoB6FWrfs5iRo-WOxqYCG8UjZy-kG5vkkCTvyETVoTeIznYCjFZiOcNewJ1Fvz/s1600/100_3193.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwjZve96ffmwtRnTFOoMZamurmhRvT0tgiaksxmrxq8sTiQpWRjCGf8uKi_EdiEN6cQXVXDa8pPNmbdeFoB6FWrfs5iRo-WOxqYCG8UjZy-kG5vkkCTvyETVoTeIznYCjFZiOcNewJ1Fvz/s400/100_3193.jpg" width="400" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
It really adds some interest to the otherwise plain green back :)<br />
<br />
It shouldn't be too long now till I'm showing you the completed quilt, woop woop!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Hope you're enjoying your April. I'm loving the sun now that we've had our hour change. Shame it's still so cold, but I'll make the most of what we've got :)<br />
<br />
I haven't been doing a lot of sewing recently. And I'm afraid I have a confession to make - I've been cheating on quilt blogs. Shocking, I know. You see, I've fallen rather head-over-heels in love with a blog called <a href="http://iheartorganizing.blogspot.co.nz/">I Heart Organising</a>. It's so beautiful! So my mind has been buzzing with ideas of how to organise our home and make things pretty. Not much has been implemented yet, but lots is going on in my head. We'll see how it goes!<br />
<br />
In the meantime though, while I was on holiday with my church my lovely friend Jenny taught us to make felt animals:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi58uIXXcdqtJvmRJKBqFaSHuVQND-OewQZybmd2xXrLypDoC_0GwobM1dAO8Dy4J3HqMpeRZp_RdxZLYSEEmiQO78C0m02zmTDPQ7qcsP8M5ouP723BZuAYaWJwj6v_S54XDDzz8rmh69L/s1600/100_3141.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi58uIXXcdqtJvmRJKBqFaSHuVQND-OewQZybmd2xXrLypDoC_0GwobM1dAO8Dy4J3HqMpeRZp_RdxZLYSEEmiQO78C0m02zmTDPQ7qcsP8M5ouP723BZuAYaWJwj6v_S54XDDzz8rmh69L/s400/100_3141.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
And I've been making a few more Christmas blocks:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjc5694EgHoncVFvony387_hfm17mtvf_NEavnPpAeB00t-is7c3KEMrSEu3iAkc58PFRSB4r90jF6UbZvha2Byr1bYrsgj_cSke9ryc9_J2GFko1pmMB91EwuDg0aiOvV8ML1CLs8ND0A7/s1600/100_3113.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjc5694EgHoncVFvony387_hfm17mtvf_NEavnPpAeB00t-is7c3KEMrSEu3iAkc58PFRSB4r90jF6UbZvha2Byr1bYrsgj_cSke9ryc9_J2GFko1pmMB91EwuDg0aiOvV8ML1CLs8ND0A7/s400/100_3113.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
So I haven't completely given up on the needle and thread yet :) See you soon!Emmahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15189215587327958567noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7144893345042373092.post-15362429307570836512013-03-15T16:20:00.000+00:002013-03-15T16:20:02.439+00:00RamblingsHi again :) I completely forgot to link up on Wednesday after all. Woops. But thanks to everyone who read anyway and gave me ideas RE quilting. Lots to think about!<br />
<br />
The quilt back is currently sitting on the back of a chair in our louge, staring at me. It's staring at me because (a) I need to figure out the ratio of green-on-the-left to green-on-the-right and I'm nervous about getting it wrong and (b) it knows it's soon time for basting and I'm scared. I'm going to have to face up to my fears soon. Mean quilt reminding me about this!<br />

<span style="font-size: x-small;">Intimidating, isn't it?</span></div>
<br />
Anyway, while I put off the inevitable, here are a couple of things I realised I hadn't shown you. First up, I've been organising my fabric!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibio_0G_XjlChz-MaNyZTA8h6XQOhnx-WkDt6D0wyO6OgDLgyF7_uvac_DzrjPW1QeNo6DGUVChjso2mJ9MW-FTpuKbnopAJOaSVJjV71ocISuIVXmByPnMfhfjkxype7I1IFTXEg74uvQ/s1600/100_2636.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibio_0G_XjlChz-MaNyZTA8h6XQOhnx-WkDt6D0wyO6OgDLgyF7_uvac_DzrjPW1QeNo6DGUVChjso2mJ9MW-FTpuKbnopAJOaSVJjV71ocISuIVXmByPnMfhfjkxype7I1IFTXEg74uvQ/s400/100_2636.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
This is a very old photo, taken at my old house! Unfortunately this isn't the whole picture - there's also a basket full of <strike>mess</strike> fabric which still needs organising to work on. All in good time. This photo also shows me that I really don't need any more blue or pink fabric. For some reason I'm always drawn to blue fabrics, even though it isn't even slightly my favourite colour. Weird, huh?<br />
<br />
Another thing to show you is I found a good use for fabric scraps :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJicp95eEVA3n2eHF8GufyZBjOfwp3LhuG7YTYkRQKuIlhXWRlby6Y_v4Y-rt8MGAl_R-WnHMhqQqPHuYkEzl6VNFjuXiOCcsIjln-WCUzE0AstzzmGGIPuOsOmbXq_6cPIZ2YsBPpFdaQ/s1600/100_3087.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJicp95eEVA3n2eHF8GufyZBjOfwp3LhuG7YTYkRQKuIlhXWRlby6Y_v4Y-rt8MGAl_R-WnHMhqQqPHuYkEzl6VNFjuXiOCcsIjln-WCUzE0AstzzmGGIPuOsOmbXq_6cPIZ2YsBPpFdaQ/s400/100_3087.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Hoping my family like the bunting cards, cos they're lots of fun to make!<br />
<br />
Anyway, enjoy your weekends (I have a day off today so mine's started early, win!), and I'll see you soon :)Emmahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15189215587327958567noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7144893345042373092.post-24058901187239919302013-03-09T15:31:00.002+00:002013-03-09T15:31:37.620+00:00Houses under ConstructionHi all :) Wow, it's been ages since I last blogged. I don't know if it's the miserable weather or what, but recently I've been so tired all the time I've only just had enough energy to manage work and watching TV, so sewing and blogging have taken a bit of a back seat! But I have been slowly progressing, so here's where I'm up to :)<br />
<br />
The Mushroom Houses quilt is coming together nicely. I completed the top a little while ago, and last night I started work on the back. Here's the front:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDYzON34NAa37DExdD0wo25KF-9N2Vc6l-uF11OQDLBS6lHGraKbIUjzG-iAMzDG7Yf_sg3gi8qRwUKaMyr5hl7gckHupo-FjGXmSZmHejzKD8B12COKd_ioIL9szRTFoNi1cBcoXXIEzF/s1600/100_3110.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDYzON34NAa37DExdD0wo25KF-9N2Vc6l-uF11OQDLBS6lHGraKbIUjzG-iAMzDG7Yf_sg3gi8qRwUKaMyr5hl7gckHupo-FjGXmSZmHejzKD8B12COKd_ioIL9szRTFoNi1cBcoXXIEzF/s400/100_3110.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-Fklb1jPCAWJI1_UlWODACcgUNtIhDrUmfIlqNMLMOaYEkxp716RAkkrhCIFrU2OQPhP05pz9qQJV-rIuSsN-6ojC4BPkY-TiQHusEOR8tOWwbx1ZR1hiqEvWswSNggODd_p3Y9W0jEE6/s1600/100_3108.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-Fklb1jPCAWJI1_UlWODACcgUNtIhDrUmfIlqNMLMOaYEkxp716RAkkrhCIFrU2OQPhP05pz9qQJV-rIuSsN-6ojC4BPkY-TiQHusEOR8tOWwbx1ZR1hiqEvWswSNggODd_p3Y9W0jEE6/s400/100_3108.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
And here's the progress on the back so far:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKGmzynPc_HWAVVGMXLiiBlIfYSBZdz1UPmIkSn0KFszhd4Fa8VTgYDADV7JfFr6jKLlKXOtL-PlVjsnPkTvuICpEafSYVsP35NHiuLnX6739YA5C0ivk2V8h038XQuI3ob6nh2-RbD4-H/s1600/100_3118.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKGmzynPc_HWAVVGMXLiiBlIfYSBZdz1UPmIkSn0KFszhd4Fa8VTgYDADV7JfFr6jKLlKXOtL-PlVjsnPkTvuICpEafSYVsP35NHiuLnX6739YA5C0ivk2V8h038XQuI3ob6nh2-RbD4-H/s400/100_3118.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Rubbish photo, sorry!</span></div>
<br />
The back was inspired by the back of <a href="http://craftandnappies.blogspot.co.uk/2012/10/tgiff-tilda-quilt.html">Juliet's Tilda quilt</a>. A very lovely and very inspirational lady :)<br />
<br />
So here's my dilemma - how should I quilt it? Free motion quilting is probably out as I've never really done it before, but never say never. I quite like the idea of getting some colour involved as the front is very white (maybe outlining each square in perle?), but the colours are quite awkward (fairly muddy shades) so finding matching thread could be tricky and I'm on a budget. As far as patterns go I'm a bit stumped - nothing's feeling uber inspiring at the moment. So, what would you do? I'll be linking up to <a href="http://www.freshlypieced.com/">Work in Progress Wednesday</a> when it comes around to see if anyone has any ideas! <br />
<br />
Hope you're all well, bye for now!Emmahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15189215587327958567noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7144893345042373092.post-72558553723037277992013-02-19T18:11:00.000+00:002013-02-19T18:11:00.081+00:00A little progressI'm working on two projects at once at the moment, which is quite unusual for me! I'm normally a one project gal. But here's what's going on at the moment :)<br />
<br />
<b>Christmas Quilt</b><br />
<br />
I made my first block! It's so pretty. Completely in love with the fabrics.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbz9TOxh2SmDovWinNWBcYR_CA1xXIWfYkUv117KL_nBr756yN-fFSPpLIkPaYqcJILlLGwYcAlD5ZHMJQMuxsvtQzWq0FPBBX8TmOxDTTFop86V6xqNqSLcHYn4nQNzvEwgVdJUEfB6my/s1600/100_3073.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbz9TOxh2SmDovWinNWBcYR_CA1xXIWfYkUv117KL_nBr756yN-fFSPpLIkPaYqcJILlLGwYcAlD5ZHMJQMuxsvtQzWq0FPBBX8TmOxDTTFop86V6xqNqSLcHYn4nQNzvEwgVdJUEfB6my/s1600/100_3073.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>Mushroom Houses</b><br />
<br />
While my hubby and mother in law were tiling our bathroom (thanks guys!), I did a lot of cutting:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2eAnr2ujaR-dTrVw6pwi4hbp-WeIjw2xU7dAINM10p1F8OFVRAUG0Wps4i23XNo8y6VWFT6HvqEGD_1FOA6WhEIMjynenfWyOlwSvCUh97dafd1Q-DLLC3Wg8DOvEA2VYnz79tNr_wcGV/s1600/100_3041.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2eAnr2ujaR-dTrVw6pwi4hbp-WeIjw2xU7dAINM10p1F8OFVRAUG0Wps4i23XNo8y6VWFT6HvqEGD_1FOA6WhEIMjynenfWyOlwSvCUh97dafd1Q-DLLC3Wg8DOvEA2VYnz79tNr_wcGV/s1600/100_3041.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
And I've since been sewing the pieces into rows:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxADHWLM27g2W10jHRr60E5z8xxSZXmhOMochmJpXqg01gdjcwyuL_L8WyTcuyans7x_s80QxLrYMR9sIpOw6g47YmjVcQXJDYYs86I3sa5ADtkbgrsjBQX9VpJARLDvbJ7JEN3XoBD1Kr/s1600/100_3053.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxADHWLM27g2W10jHRr60E5z8xxSZXmhOMochmJpXqg01gdjcwyuL_L8WyTcuyans7x_s80QxLrYMR9sIpOw6g47YmjVcQXJDYYs86I3sa5ADtkbgrsjBQX9VpJARLDvbJ7JEN3XoBD1Kr/s1600/100_3053.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I also took the slightly-too-girly houses fabric:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgeJqTDJMIWjM8iyApsn7aEckBka-xMg3jephpcJgIoc1cnN6YyYmVxtaypdtFFAZMOJcbud0hOmxyz_DRMmtz0ghsvGXrSTiOKN1mdiz7znwW_iIMSxwqafu4LDYXivAP1cXnTp0vUyEjD/s1600/100_3035.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgeJqTDJMIWjM8iyApsn7aEckBka-xMg3jephpcJgIoc1cnN6YyYmVxtaypdtFFAZMOJcbud0hOmxyz_DRMmtz0ghsvGXrSTiOKN1mdiz7znwW_iIMSxwqafu4LDYXivAP1cXnTp0vUyEjD/s1600/100_3035.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
And carefully pieced it to create a nice clean line :) I was really pleased with how this worked out.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh56CEB36M9PMzO2REtHShf5vzuvjCAkQbIQ9gmhSNAYladRzyruXu4vboFqys8nTSDlEGx7RVcGWbixoCvXsZ7GsiAvu84nvyynyAy5oMSST_3qsStL7fq66Ycyq4aKHzqolXUtze_FYaJ/s1600/100_3076.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh56CEB36M9PMzO2REtHShf5vzuvjCAkQbIQ9gmhSNAYladRzyruXu4vboFqys8nTSDlEGx7RVcGWbixoCvXsZ7GsiAvu84nvyynyAy5oMSST_3qsStL7fq66Ycyq4aKHzqolXUtze_FYaJ/s1600/100_3076.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Hope you're all well :)Emmahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15189215587327958567noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7144893345042373092.post-77261201418736951912013-02-09T15:21:00.000+00:002013-02-09T15:21:34.743+00:00Mushroom Houses!!Hi everyone :) I've recently started work on a new baby quilt. <a href="http://patchworkandpins.blogspot.co.uk/2012/06/twit-twoo.html">Little Miss Cooper</a>'s mum has asked me to make a quilt for a friend of hers who is having a baby. We went fabric shopping together to come up with some ideas and we were browsing around without reaching any conclusions until she turned around and said "Mushroom houses!!" So, Lecien's Woodland it was!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFGHig4rinNKNTlp1psQK2R8mpN0CDJsoWlcjFf6xsTLMji-nrnTdnFnsBjkmIup9YkHMaKLHOPxpM8BqjYDR5xtSDPkIJpz1XZKt9MzGB462QJViMhR91SjvaSl_bXLxYf-1ZxCaDnMle/s1600/100_3032.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFGHig4rinNKNTlp1psQK2R8mpN0CDJsoWlcjFf6xsTLMji-nrnTdnFnsBjkmIup9YkHMaKLHOPxpM8BqjYDR5xtSDPkIJpz1XZKt9MzGB462QJViMhR91SjvaSl_bXLxYf-1ZxCaDnMle/s1600/100_3032.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
This is going to be another gender neutral quilt. A little awkward as a lot of this range is based on fairies and flowers, but with some clever selection and some planned fussy-cutting (we'll be losing the flowery garland on the white fabric) I reckon it should be achievable.<br />
<br />
Here's my plan for the quilt:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGLeqAY5dtYUEa9kbp2CDYBWtB24qDA6EmMZ97R3a6-9Hx18D8AeFUHAxbhw8pgbazQte8WISl5VsV8Waae3FxJZFj6YLfwbmrZYkpHbjKRcSPHftpcfDuke-OBCyFqIhvGUvOtVc56-EE/s1600/woodland.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGLeqAY5dtYUEa9kbp2CDYBWtB24qDA6EmMZ97R3a6-9Hx18D8AeFUHAxbhw8pgbazQte8WISl5VsV8Waae3FxJZFj6YLfwbmrZYkpHbjKRcSPHftpcfDuke-OBCyFqIhvGUvOtVc56-EE/s1600/woodland.png" height="397" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Does anyone else plan their quilts in Paint? Anyway, I'm looking forward to working on this one. The rows of houses between the rows were my friend's idea - I think they're going to look really cute! I'll be intruiged to see how close the real quilt looks to this picture in the end.<br />
<br />
See you soon :)Emmahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15189215587327958567noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7144893345042373092.post-78215926154676098212013-02-08T08:14:00.002+00:002013-02-08T12:02:10.610+00:00Decisions, decisionsOne of the best things about our new flat is that it's across the road from our friends Dave and Raych. When we first moved in it felt a bit like being back in halls at university - being able to pop by and see people so easily, instead of having to make plans like boring grown-ups! Alongside their many other wonderful qualities, Dave and Raych are great because they have a shower. We, on the other hand, currently have a building site/bathroom with no shower and a lot of mess. So they have very kindly been letting us pop by to use theirs.<br />
<br />
I had been wondering whether I could make them something as a thank you, and then they mentioned to my hubby that whenever they have loads of things to think/decide/pray about, they put them all in a hat, draw out one and discuss that one. Perfect! I had been waiting for an excuse to try out <a href="http://www.incolororder.com/2011/10/lined-drawstring-bag-tutorial.html">Jeni's drawtsring bag tutorial</a>, and this was it.<br />
<br />
First up, cutting.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIrR_usb6GiXGgtk37hCVyIuxzrNEgF-bL_7RvOdnSGEXldLsH-VTDiwXrXiU86Z2saDl66hArdixu7t21iVVhyphenhyphen0Jh18fp2n72fQCMHfsZI6_Mo-tYZNeddGcLSXZHgfoqleRD4U1Hs0qs/s1600/100_2984.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIrR_usb6GiXGgtk37hCVyIuxzrNEgF-bL_7RvOdnSGEXldLsH-VTDiwXrXiU86Z2saDl66hArdixu7t21iVVhyphenhyphen0Jh18fp2n72fQCMHfsZI6_Mo-tYZNeddGcLSXZHgfoqleRD4U1Hs0qs/s1600/100_2984.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">The fake patchwork fabric was a <span style="font-size: x-small;">birthday present from my good friends Matt and Ki<span style="font-size: x-small;">rsten.</span></span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><span style="font-size: x-small;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">It's perfect for Raych, and <span style="font-size: x-small;">I'm sure Dave will<span style="font-size: x-small;"> be OK with it!</span></span> </span></span></span></div>
<br />
Next was the exciting bit - getting to use my new embroidery hoop! It was a Christmas present from my in-laws, and I loved using it. I felt a bit like I was in Pride and Prejudice :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWiUMvi4MhLozq8QLGrg21XzZNqC2kZ_YAhAaCrUfIzMwCiVzg-o3__UO0qNUA7tJ2hvA467rJUjKczcNfnu0VIFkp2No1VnbobOhT45mvREdBZKeokk-3WeQFBCjT4GFUchZkTvghkRcD/s1600/100_2985.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWiUMvi4MhLozq8QLGrg21XzZNqC2kZ_YAhAaCrUfIzMwCiVzg-o3__UO0qNUA7tJ2hvA467rJUjKczcNfnu0VIFkp2No1VnbobOhT45mvREdBZKeokk-3WeQFBCjT4GFUchZkTvghkRcD/s1600/100_2985.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Then I sewed the pieces together...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5TVU67EZ83uiYLeqWQumBKY3TBkN-XaNLxEZxb2CUqyCAIvaU7M8UH-wtnpp5YpYj2Uq1Uh4oF49ZRX6LqCk5bxtQYxu9_agEBw-0_wW75r5E-9B7fBi1W51K_D4cuxGxkX-uOuMVfx7a/s1600/100_2986.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5TVU67EZ83uiYLeqWQumBKY3TBkN-XaNLxEZxb2CUqyCAIvaU7M8UH-wtnpp5YpYj2Uq1Uh4oF49ZRX6LqCk5bxtQYxu9_agEBw-0_wW75r5E-9B7fBi1W51K_D4cuxGxkX-uOuMVfx7a/s1600/100_2986.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
... and, ta da! One lovely little bag.<br />

Jeni's tutorial was great. Very clear and simple to follow. I'd definitely recommend you give it a go! I gave the bag to Dave and Raych a little while ago while on one of my many pop-round-for-a-shower trips, and Raych described it as the prettiest bag she'd ever seen. So I think it's fair to say it was well received!<br />

<br />
Anyway, today I'm going to show you 'London, baby!', a table-topper I made for my mum. Back at the start of 2012 my LQS was preparing for the jubilee with a Great Britain-themed window display. One of the fabrics was the map print in Cool Brittania, which I thought was a fun idea but then thought nothing more of it. Until a sudden thought popped into my mind - I wonder if Primrose Hill is on there? You see, my mum loves London and she and my dad got engaged on Primrose Hill. Much searching of the internet yielded no conclusive results but I eventually managed to get back to the shop and found that yep, it was there! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtbixYRHyez8D6KrMUq2XVWkv2IppkMEgT-x9AUo-Y6asMjoEb5woa_K_nowgXAKwPeI6J6HwiU310BVG-kIak6o0HsYvPvfHXPoyaNNpaeEcoBtGY5pZ531Feb8JBiUBk4PhuKed1K065/s1600/100_3023.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtbixYRHyez8D6KrMUq2XVWkv2IppkMEgT-x9AUo-Y6asMjoEb5woa_K_nowgXAKwPeI6J6HwiU310BVG-kIak6o0HsYvPvfHXPoyaNNpaeEcoBtGY5pZ531Feb8JBiUBk4PhuKed1K065/s1600/100_3023.jpg" height="211" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
So, I knew I would be making something for my mum! Problem was, what to make. After a bit of umming and ahhing I settled on a mini quilt, to be used as a table topper. Picking out fabrics to go with the London ones was good fun. I only realised afterwards that I had been subconsciously replicating the colour scheme of the Bliss fabric line. Woops!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxd1aluFzkCiGo_SrJsJsPZDkbiRQiuS9jLEG1-xoF0xYz6L7SYXr4wEf909TxOnZGlZRGjZJQgC-a2fHZ8RJfZMQwgN5ZVYxBXYFTp36CC-cHI5GGTZ_qoPS7MM3GTA0bE0mL3GThm5wv/s1600/100_3025.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxd1aluFzkCiGo_SrJsJsPZDkbiRQiuS9jLEG1-xoF0xYz6L7SYXr4wEf909TxOnZGlZRGjZJQgC-a2fHZ8RJfZMQwgN5ZVYxBXYFTp36CC-cHI5GGTZ_qoPS7MM3GTA0bE0mL3GThm5wv/s1600/100_3025.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Fabrics chosen, I made plans for the pattern. I had been drooling over <a href="http://filminthefridge.com/2012/07/10/ruby-strings-quilt/">Ashley's string quilt</a> for quite some time, so strings it was: <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpDssYUMZshS0qAeix7dzjKJw9bxt7HpdrZQopvuHb8qEHLlft4HqVd3i779gi2IFdsNyCv7hOdlvkHrGEX48TpfxRcBBmYlaxdLgCCQqNLOD7U4ITw84own4SdLIflm54S04HFQLFyoRD/s1600/100_2616.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpDssYUMZshS0qAeix7dzjKJw9bxt7HpdrZQopvuHb8qEHLlft4HqVd3i779gi2IFdsNyCv7hOdlvkHrGEX48TpfxRcBBmYlaxdLgCCQqNLOD7U4ITw84own4SdLIflm54S04HFQLFyoRD/s1600/100_2616.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
When I came to actually use the map fabric I encountered a problem. Obviously the fabric had to have repeats and joins where the real London doesn't match up. Unfortunately I don't know London at all, so didn't have a clue where they were! Cue a lot of time poring over Google maps and trying to work out how to cut pieces big enough for the pattern without any geographical issues. It took a while, and I made a few mistakes along the way, but I got there! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Taking the paper off the back of the blocks was not fun. I wonder if the tracing paper I used was a bit too strong? Next time I'll try baking paper. Since the seams were not impressed with my tugging while getting the paper off, I decided to use fusible wadding to stabilise them, instead of normal batting. Should help it last!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Piecing done, I ironed the top and back onto the fusible wadding. And yes, that is a cupboard door I'm using as an ironing board. The flat was still a little chaotic, and it was the right size!<br />

<br />
Some simple straight-line quilting around the squares and a little embroidered heart finished this project off nicely.<br />

So despite the craziness of a house move, getting ready for Christmas and, of course, holding down a full-time job, this quilt was finished in time for mum's birthday. And here it is in its new home!<br />

That's all for now! See you soon :)Emmahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15189215587327958567noreply@blogger.com28tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7144893345042373092.post-60360534016796910972013-01-14T21:04:00.000+00:002013-01-15T12:36:19.246+00:00Christmas in JanuaryHi everyone :) This new year I've started an exciting new project - I'm making my first quilt to keep! We haven't decided on colours/decor for our new flat yet, so I'm making one that will go with anything - a Christmas quilt.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjElxHs7nuTLVN4CpG4UVYZ-myYR3IEVlmbnpu8ismKNI0uwRBQOjlCvHWnFWnyFHPGa6Tdm-tYen3gYT9tDCibPdUgvSkE7Q_j9QXhtdWIaJ_2EyMJPIVdGl_Hegc4SbvkHZv80d__SWI/s1600/100_2957.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjElxHs7nuTLVN4CpG4UVYZ-myYR3IEVlmbnpu8ismKNI0uwRBQOjlCvHWnFWnyFHPGa6Tdm-tYen3gYT9tDCibPdUgvSkE7Q_j9QXhtdWIaJ_2EyMJPIVdGl_Hegc4SbvkHZv80d__SWI/s1600/100_2957.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
My grandparents very kindly got me a couple of Flurry charm packs for my birthday - I love that line, and most of Kate Spain's designs. I particularly love <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/70297961@N03/8129091627/">this quilt</a>. Isn't it gorgeous? Anyway, I'm going to be making a <a href="http://www.modabakeshop.com/2010/10/charming-stars-quilt.html">Charming Stars</a> quilt. At 1.7ish metres square this'll be the biggest quilt I'll have made by a long way. Already rather scared about trying to baste and quilt it, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.<br />
<br />
The pattern needs 3 charm packs and I only have 2 so I've been picking out fabrics to go with them. It's gone really well - 2 new fabrics my inlaws gave me for Christmas, 2 solids I already had and one fabric I'd been eyeing up which was on sale:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgk5HS4x6frQz9wIBIe0jedFxiT0QhPK7PL0tBsCO9CrertOjbMrEJpeQnuYE2rz2RnmvJnDsg5_CBTQfOLBCLUIDBKO4XBHE9ZP04dWwmYpLNN1zb1zOx0LRLuLyBD7AGugeP4MZIAhXwZ/s1600/100_2960.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgk5HS4x6frQz9wIBIe0jedFxiT0QhPK7PL0tBsCO9CrertOjbMrEJpeQnuYE2rz2RnmvJnDsg5_CBTQfOLBCLUIDBKO4XBHE9ZP04dWwmYpLNN1zb1zOx0LRLuLyBD7AGugeP4MZIAhXwZ/s400/100_2960.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Pearl brace<span style="font-size: x-small;">lets - swoon!</span></span></div>
<br />
I just need to pick up a green solid and I'll be good to go :)<br />
<br />
The first step in making this quilt is to cut out 128 2 7/8"white squares - yikes. So far I've cut out 45 which actually didn't take too long! Looking forward to sorting out the layout and getting sewing soon.<br />
<br />
Ooh and something else to show you. Do you remember my 'photography studio' in my old flat:<br />

It's about time I showed you the finished quilts I made for my friends' twins Obadiah and Elijah. For those of you popping over from <a href="http://www.crazymomquilts.blogspot.co.uk/">Finish It Up Friday</a> or <a href="http://www.tgiffriday.blogspot.ca/">TGIFF</a> (hi!) who haven't seen these quilts before, a group of friends joined me to make lots of little embroidered squares which I then turned into quilts :)<br />
<br />
In my last post I told you about my nightmare quilting episodes. Thankfully after that, things were pretty straight forward. The only issue was timing - due to my imminent house move, I had to do all the hand-sewing on one of the quilts in one day! I know, I know, some people make an entire baby quilt in a weekend, but for me, 4 metres of hand-sewing in a day was an achievement.<br />
<br />
So, here we go, finished pics :)<br />
<br />

These quilts were lots of fun to make, and it was really great to get some friends involved! Now I just need to convince them that they want to learn to baste so I can give up on that part...<br />
<br />
Anyway, happy Friday everyone!<br />

Happy new year! I was lame this year and went to bed way before 12, but the new year seemed to turn up anyway :)<br />
<br />
Anyway, let's head back to last year as I still need to show you the quilts I was making for my friends' new twin boys. Last time I showed you one of the completed quilt tops:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0iOxDGLqH7R_5WguYKSmCZ39sOpY1jkeKYiw4H7B1brQy9pns63IJjBsQM7YeVaGnJC5AbfQK0NsTqIR4cIJcezRZzzX5FZlLet-FYQ86GyPZPtHiMiGeOYJMuf9o9RIXGt7_1tqCx9Rr/s1600/100_2389.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0iOxDGLqH7R_5WguYKSmCZ39sOpY1jkeKYiw4H7B1brQy9pns63IJjBsQM7YeVaGnJC5AbfQK0NsTqIR4cIJcezRZzzX5FZlLet-FYQ86GyPZPtHiMiGeOYJMuf9o9RIXGt7_1tqCx9Rr/s400/100_2389.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Well, next up was the backing. I splashed out a little and picked up a whole 2 metres of the gorgeous blue dragonfly fabric. It's so pretty! I may have wrapped myself up in it when I got it home and pretended it was a dress. May have.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUDc5ts0Z83AuShPVjmKBmJwdcZ4qJtqlK1DwFDfbQocgaJNLy7BG0uOLKWk8x4NH8PwnWhEdD06eAQpdGZE487TA7esyBsmaYmX9mUIT6_Wwjzh07xsU_laHTE4u5wc93lzG9_MBTd3ht/s1600/100_2388.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUDc5ts0Z83AuShPVjmKBmJwdcZ4qJtqlK1DwFDfbQocgaJNLy7BG0uOLKWk8x4NH8PwnWhEdD06eAQpdGZE487TA7esyBsmaYmX9mUIT6_Wwjzh07xsU_laHTE4u5wc93lzG9_MBTd3ht/s400/100_2388.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Anyone who reads this blog won't be surprised at what came next - appliqué! The twins are named Obadiah and Elijah, which thankfully they shorten to Obi and Eli - much more achievable!<br />
<br />

<br />
Next up - quilting. And boy, did this not go well! The main reasons were poor basting (despite my best efforts, sob!), trying too many new things at once (stitch-in-the-ditch quilting, and using different colour threads on the top and the bottom) and my walking foot not yet being useable. All this resulted in failed attempts to stay in the ditch, bunched up backing, and, most upsettingly, the straight lines of the quilt being dragged along by my normal machine foot until they were approximately a bazillion miles from being straight. Add to this that I accidentally cut a hole in one of the quilt blocks, and I was seriously wondering whether I should give up quilting. Gah!<br />
<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">The hole :(</span></div>
<br />
But somehow I persevered. I emailed <a href="http://kettleboiler.blogspot.co.uk/">Moira</a> for advice and replaced the holey block. I rebasted with help from the hubby. I redid a couple of lines where my stitches definitely weren't in the ditch. I fixed the worst straight-line-which-would-make-a-ruler-cry, and took lots of deep breaths and decided no-one would notice the other ones.<br />
<br />
And so, the quilting was done. Phew.<br />

<br />
Next up - binding. But I'll leave it that for another time. Hope you're all enjoying the new year!<br />
<br />
I'll be linking up to <a href="http://www.freshlypieced.com/2013/01/wip-wednesday-guest-hosted-by-heidi-at.html">Work in Progress Wednesday</a> when it comes around :)Emmahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15189215587327958567noreply@blogger.com12tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7144893345042373092.post-82892654843778791612012-12-29T08:45:00.000+00:002012-12-29T08:45:31.196+00:00Making a List, Checking it TwiceHappy belated Christmas everyone! Hope you all had fun. We were with my family for a very relaxed Christmas, which was lovely after the busyness of house moving. We're now back home for a day and a half and then off to see the hubby's family. Fun times :)<br />
<br />
Anyway, it's now time for <a href="http://kelseysews.blogspot.co.uk/">Kelsey's </a>100 Day Hustle link-up. Just realised that she had us make a list and check it twice (once at the halfway-point, once now); do you reckon she might be Santa? Anyway, here are my results!<br />
<br />
1. Finish frog project<br />
Done! I'm part way through blogging about the <a href="http://patchworkandpins.blogspot.co.uk/2012/12/squares-squares-squares.html">quilts for my friends' new twins</a>, here's a sneak peek of the completed quilts :)<br />
<br />

<br />
2. Start and finish London project<br />
Done! The London project was for my mum. More to come on this later, but here's a quick look.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-jvaD1kT_VieCNOGmM5Hys8g5HRh2llkw_J_DYTymGHoGvBUIF7SmHE3qhx6aid54TqPE2kr4qcVgl2tpJQwv6XhTDE6YpKlU8wjY_yd-P19uYKyf9VA91SbmB1EZz-yW7HdMpuA94QP2/s1600/london_quilt_sneak_peek.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="147" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-jvaD1kT_VieCNOGmM5Hys8g5HRh2llkw_J_DYTymGHoGvBUIF7SmHE3qhx6aid54TqPE2kr4qcVgl2tpJQwv6XhTDE6YpKlU8wjY_yd-P19uYKyf9VA91SbmB1EZz-yW7HdMpuA94QP2/s400/london_quilt_sneak_peek.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
3. Start and finish Mouthy Stitches bag and keyfob<br />
Done very early on in the hustle, and sent to Sadie :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
4. Pick out fabrics for a quilt for hubby and I<br />
Not happened yet. Although I do now have some exciting new fabric - as my Christmas present my hubby took me out for a Thorntons hot chocolate (the epic one with a scoop of icecream in it, I went for toffee icecream and it was amazing) and then took me on to the fabric shop to pick out my present :) Very exciting, I'll show them to you soon! Probably not what I'll use for our quilt, but very fun all the same.<br />
<br />
5. Maybe make some little things for people for Christmas<br />
It didn't involve sewing, but my hubby and I did do some last-minute making. Will show you soon.<br />
<br />
6. Make my Texting While Sewing block into a cushion<br />
Wasn't expecting to find time for this, even before I knew I'd be moving house! Ah well, will get to it in the new year :)<br />
<br />
And that's my list! It went pretty well I think. It feels weird entering the new year with no ongoing sewing projects (well, unless you count making that cushion). I'm quite excited about it though, and looking forward to picking what to make next!<br />
<br />
Hope you all have a great new year, and see you soon! Emmahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15189215587327958567noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7144893345042373092.post-76767783520836547352012-12-18T22:46:00.000+00:002012-12-18T22:46:40.218+00:00We did it!We moved house 2 weeks before Christmas! With the help of friends and family we managed to move everything across here on Saturday. And amazingly, this place already feels a lot like home. This is mostly thanks to my hubby, who spent all of Monday unpacking our lounge. Wonderful man. Here's a corner of our new place during moving day:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMjU9FG3cPHH4SVPlxqShYGW52xyD7CVz0UI0UgFw1m24BssvKoJIBAp9rBkWEnjZNP2Qq3vqbwLbkFhfaOjkwUNtDgYlK0TW96rMzadMD16ipQquM-3dmlbG-D9zchoDZp9wh8rxvoScZ/s1600/100_2811.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMjU9FG3cPHH4SVPlxqShYGW52xyD7CVz0UI0UgFw1m24BssvKoJIBAp9rBkWEnjZNP2Qq3vqbwLbkFhfaOjkwUNtDgYlK0TW96rMzadMD16ipQquM-3dmlbG-D9zchoDZp9wh8rxvoScZ/s400/100_2811.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
And here it is now!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPii5ztqMHnhKtOMpLXgsJKr0r6R4xRw8JbhMFpiEzwUNEmrVvzH5o4yIwx2dUrtKCAxJMd9hvrHW8bEQGidfn0RcqVhds9sRmdC2ptaMVqAAfwSMgM5fq03pIe6DkzxJ3QkiP2Bjki5Xn/s1600/100_2851.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPii5ztqMHnhKtOMpLXgsJKr0r6R4xRw8JbhMFpiEzwUNEmrVvzH5o4yIwx2dUrtKCAxJMd9hvrHW8bEQGidfn0RcqVhds9sRmdC2ptaMVqAAfwSMgM5fq03pIe6DkzxJ3QkiP2Bjki5Xn/s400/100_2851.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The rest of the house still needs work, but it's great to have some of it done already.<br />
<br />
Surprisingly I've still found some time to sew. Late one night, a few days before we moved, I had a go at making a tissue holder after being inspired by <a href="http://mary.emmens.co.uk/2012/12/11/a-commission-quick-gifts/">this post</a>. I followed <a href="http://twobrownbirds.typepad.com/two-brown-birds/free-pattern-ahhtishoo-travel-tissue-cover.html">this tutorial</a>, and loved it! So simple to make, and yet it looks so professional. To my eyes anyway :) This was a gift for my lovely friend Kirsten.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhDXHIj2oe_GQVvf0qGynugNDYaeSlAJvrr1nCfBvfXnbMP7rYvQlqPwjw236cQHciLvGGid3JEeF5zAWEvoKvPvIbKFPgJB453AE7LIWMq3VLbMphUD2Jj1SON3VMWtdyGrKIEuiMnj3F/s1600/100_2762.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhDXHIj2oe_GQVvf0qGynugNDYaeSlAJvrr1nCfBvfXnbMP7rYvQlqPwjw236cQHciLvGGid3JEeF5zAWEvoKvPvIbKFPgJB453AE7LIWMq3VLbMphUD2Jj1SON3VMWtdyGrKIEuiMnj3F/s400/100_2762.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I've also been working on another project, but it's another secret one so I'll tell you about it later.<br />
<br />
Hope you're all well and looking forward to Christmas!Emmahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15189215587327958567noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7144893345042373092.post-18357446694638650582012-12-14T14:13:00.001+00:002012-12-14T14:13:56.084+00:00Squares, squares, squaresHi all! It's moving day tomorrow, very exciting! Day off today to 'pack' (read: have a lie-in, do Christmas shopping and at some point put things in boxes) so thought I'd pop in to say hi.<br />
<br />
When I last left you, I'd been working on <a href="http://patchworkandpins.blogspot.co.uk/2012/12/double-trouble.html">lots of mini embroideries</a> with some friends. Well, next up was turning them into two quilt tops. My inspiration was <a href="http://www.redpepperquilts.com/2009/07/nine-patch-quilt-top.html">this quilt</a>. Making something with this pattern had been on my to-do list for a while. And so I began by laying out the plain squares:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVcHCLmgiee-JSDe7bCL9gaM_GDTYUUEckQdRTRciBfNT6PFBv0MGJArBRRp9Hsgm_7Zk0FEa1jCOALAzG0n4q7kHVUJcFvMgVw4-umvJ65HEjcpUTM8zOVhLCnYpDX4Gqc57sdTCe18GF/s1600/100_2324.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVcHCLmgiee-JSDe7bCL9gaM_GDTYUUEckQdRTRciBfNT6PFBv0MGJArBRRp9Hsgm_7Zk0FEa1jCOALAzG0n4q7kHVUJcFvMgVw4-umvJ65HEjcpUTM8zOVhLCnYpDX4Gqc57sdTCe18GF/s400/100_2324.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
And then started adding in the pictures to replace the embroidery-representation-paperclips (technical term):<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjL2egKw4GGQivQc7No9zP_ri0xBTl5IwS7LQDnIrHuDn5JZ-2i3cEsnzUtN9lE-xLBUAxuIa-Gn3kxCdndsROwq83FIN4O2HXjfqi-qcIonhtCrnNLK1p0jKCibFkhJJh9JQrpfL-ppS0h/s1600/100_2341.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjL2egKw4GGQivQc7No9zP_ri0xBTl5IwS7LQDnIrHuDn5JZ-2i3cEsnzUtN9lE-xLBUAxuIa-Gn3kxCdndsROwq83FIN4O2HXjfqi-qcIonhtCrnNLK1p0jKCibFkhJJh9JQrpfL-ppS0h/s400/100_2341.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Next up I piled the squares neatly:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVcEq_IRvYoXeC9px-f88QmtJtGfnQjdsa0txBycstfyKLdmJu5xqR7jna9PCAvopuSk7un2toGCEPO0oeBmMNzgMrZOVWnkCyEsTtTyrFslFgjzoKLDDljxkV7Ji17A3yORzn6gKIBD0k/s1600/100_2356.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVcEq_IRvYoXeC9px-f88QmtJtGfnQjdsa0txBycstfyKLdmJu5xqR7jna9PCAvopuSk7un2toGCEPO0oeBmMNzgMrZOVWnkCyEsTtTyrFslFgjzoKLDDljxkV7Ji17A3yORzn6gKIBD0k/s400/100_2356.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
And started making some blocks :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj77S9H_W7lkUN0a2WCOrgD2Onjg_fSvd_di58WMC0dpqGzmfYwyoewjTh2NJ047XLBsL56g5oqp_CZ3_4hPynRFeeuC279zCTHGOIO92gdopKBE74vZRzMJJE7omB2fVfHfNASjO3XXszj/s1600/100_2384.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj77S9H_W7lkUN0a2WCOrgD2Onjg_fSvd_di58WMC0dpqGzmfYwyoewjTh2NJ047XLBsL56g5oqp_CZ3_4hPynRFeeuC279zCTHGOIO92gdopKBE74vZRzMJJE7omB2fVfHfNASjO3XXszj/s400/100_2384.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9WIKBJ50XgHZt_GHMRiI_4IrnMfkqON-lKcnbg7EinYsjyjcaTUWLvdzdHQxqE4xtlWE1B211pRLsl9UeDyB_6pEjhSx-6u1Ci1UZt6eYBr86yAOQqS6qn6ihEjnRoIEYyROIUimXKZAi/s1600/100_2368.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9WIKBJ50XgHZt_GHMRiI_4IrnMfkqON-lKcnbg7EinYsjyjcaTUWLvdzdHQxqE4xtlWE1B211pRLsl9UeDyB_6pEjhSx-6u1Ci1UZt6eYBr86yAOQqS6qn6ihEjnRoIEYyROIUimXKZAi/s400/100_2368.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
I tried different methods of making the blocks - with the first quilt I didn't pin the squares at all, with the second I put one pin in either side of every intersection. In the finished product I'm not sure you can tell the difference! The pinning made things a bit more accurate so I didn't have to redo any 'those points don't quite match' seams, so I'm not sure which was the quicker method in the long run. What do you do? Are you a pinner or not? I'm still finding my sewing style :)<br />
<br />
Before too long, something resembling a quilt appeared:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGn0SVW26wewiEmc3FH0qNi_la5Vv4zY4NxOxS8apvPAmROlepAuIZav2BENDPe5L-mlcyd_-91zkXOZ93R5EptObgEkbggWYZiS2rJ9pmErnimFQl-i0ERNRbPbVtrfA3Hy0phgeIgxgu/s1600/100_2386.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGn0SVW26wewiEmc3FH0qNi_la5Vv4zY4NxOxS8apvPAmROlepAuIZav2BENDPe5L-mlcyd_-91zkXOZ93R5EptObgEkbggWYZiS2rJ9pmErnimFQl-i0ERNRbPbVtrfA3Hy0phgeIgxgu/s400/100_2386.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
And I soon had a quilt top :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjksLnoq09L4_KXvrAIEiwrItslILG8FIMIOk0IUD3rd2UbJQTqZXqmCRJxMptoxeaXqoefx2HkdwsVjdnMJr2rO23RWsImKnxb8wjGfMdCY0_VwRj6dk1naaXakM1Pk6wM8IV662hGzoC-/s1600/100_2389.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjksLnoq09L4_KXvrAIEiwrItslILG8FIMIOk0IUD3rd2UbJQTqZXqmCRJxMptoxeaXqoefx2HkdwsVjdnMJr2rO23RWsImKnxb8wjGfMdCY0_VwRj6dk1naaXakM1Pk6wM8IV662hGzoC-/s400/100_2389.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
More on these quilts coming soon!<br />
<br />
PS: Below is a typical shot of my lounge (soon to be my old lounge, sob) when I've been let loose to sew - one project on the floor, another on the table, a pile of fabric and assorted discarded jumpers because I've got too hot when ironing fabric. Does anyone else take over entire rooms when they sew?!<br />

Well, earlier on this year we found out their parents were expecting twins! They're an amazing couple, and if anyone can handle 4 under 4s, they can. I wasn't sure with budget and with being busy with <a href="http://patchworkandpins.blogspot.co.uk/2012/10/part-4-orla-complete.html">Toby's quilt</a> whether I'd be able to make 2 more, but in the end it all worked out :)<br />
<br />
These quilts started with some scheming between myself and my best friend Kirsten. Unfortunately since we've both graduated, got jobs and become proper grown-ups, there has been a lot less time in our lives for scheming. But we'll make the most of the opportunities when they come! Our scheming this time resulted in plans to gather some girly friends and all embroider squares which we'd sew together in quilts for the twins. The pictures we'd embroider would be gender-neutral, and once they'd arrived I'd pick up pink or blue fabric to add into the mix, depending upon the genders.<br />
<br />
I went to my LQS and realised this would be the perfect opportunity to use a dragonfly fabric I'd been eyeing up. They sold it in blue, pink and green - perfect! I found solids which matched it and bought the gender neutral prints ready to start some embroidery.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEih9Tw4mQcmGw40jQyrw4mSJdkD5K1z-Hm2Q8LFw21FnNqu7SzI8db5GBopRxwLzDF6MsEyQVhk4nzNVLQMp3xuzbyFaK4uh-p_FXN5yPdOT3zWGM9GZysGqEISz5fr-kF6giN0GO7XmeJa/s1600/100_2186.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEih9Tw4mQcmGw40jQyrw4mSJdkD5K1z-Hm2Q8LFw21FnNqu7SzI8db5GBopRxwLzDF6MsEyQVhk4nzNVLQMp3xuzbyFaK4uh-p_FXN5yPdOT3zWGM9GZysGqEISz5fr-kF6giN0GO7XmeJa/s400/100_2186.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
And so we began :) Sewing, snacking (far too much during the first girly evening...), and coming up with fun, gender-neutral pictures.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFIbRagSBNFjJ0YSEvLVEcxHC8NYlvxaGahoO3Uiugk428LdoDz0n1WdtiARWPKfo4CKMfOWMY69mKiOu0tBHh7TuLAQ-GO6Ceiqf38YnuAZITsrYQN46evWMDUqdz7VB7LNL1MjK0WIkd/s1600/100_2383.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFIbRagSBNFjJ0YSEvLVEcxHC8NYlvxaGahoO3Uiugk428LdoDz0n1WdtiARWPKfo4CKMfOWMY69mKiOu0tBHh7TuLAQ-GO6Ceiqf38YnuAZITsrYQN46evWMDUqdz7VB7LNL1MjK0WIkd/s400/100_2383.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
When we were part way through sewing squares, the twins were born. Two boys! <a href="http://patchworkandpins.blogspot.co.uk/2012/06/twice-fun.html">Again</a>! And so, blue it was.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipG3AhY7u9ttFdO9y0mF_yLPb25p9MZi7VYihq7oCoAgSWrxfKxkOX397um-2M5Zy8o_OyNoLljonnClG9wWkKZO08XwrQfK_WdB9DCUWs7VBkGj6i5NAQgB4mz_rfAT18wseSQsn6qV46/s1600/100_2273.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipG3AhY7u9ttFdO9y0mF_yLPb25p9MZi7VYihq7oCoAgSWrxfKxkOX397um-2M5Zy8o_OyNoLljonnClG9wWkKZO08XwrQfK_WdB9DCUWs7VBkGj6i5NAQgB4mz_rfAT18wseSQsn6qV46/s400/100_2273.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Mmm, pretty fabrics.<br />
<br />
Anyway, some boyish pictures started to creep in as we created more and more mini embroideries. I was expecting making so many to drive me spare, but I actually (mostly) quite enjoyed it! Me and embroidery getting along, who knew?<br />
<br />
Here are most of the white-background pictures: <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0fFli5b5_0EssQBrtVfcTZss1Q7xjILJanbkCQGe1VZ6QCkM1qpMCz3enJ9_IT1dekPZcTUa_Co8HF5GRUy_ZIDVKvrpV25YETYaNDBqCCrOjZd1fbNZraBTfpPLiVy26Bg2_luqi_bBV/s1600/100_2327.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0fFli5b5_0EssQBrtVfcTZss1Q7xjILJanbkCQGe1VZ6QCkM1qpMCz3enJ9_IT1dekPZcTUa_Co8HF5GRUy_ZIDVKvrpV25YETYaNDBqCCrOjZd1fbNZraBTfpPLiVy26Bg2_luqi_bBV/s400/100_2327.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
And here are the coloureds: <br />
<br />

Points if you spotted Edmund, <a href="http://patchworkandpins.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/ribbitt.html">my guest blogger</a>, in the first pic :) Yes, for those of you who follow my blog, this is 'the frog project'!<br />
<br />
I'll leave you with some close-ups of some of the embroideries. Tune in next time to see them turn into quilts :) Oh, and in case you're wondering, yes, I do have some very talented friends!<br />

Hi all! Long time, no see. Life's been busy. Anyway, today I bring you the Patchwork and Pins guide to 'what to do if someone else buys your husband the same present you'd bought him and gives it to him first'.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Step 1 (optional):</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Get all worried/stressed/pull your hair out.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Step 2:</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Put together the fact that your husband likes Lego and you like appliqué and start to come up with a master plan.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Step 3:</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Remember that he needs new pyjamas. Develop the master plan.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Step 4:</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Buy pyjamas. Optional extra - for bonus points - make pyjamas. Wasn't gonna happen for me!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjo_osiLkP7gZ6PeqOgDeAfpooqyof7qhe3DJY8hqCxFEHZxwHibEFH-rjEfjONupirbxGVamLanFF6aSYQE16FPhw1h4Z2ykm0RnFR3cVYsZ-380li4qTEoRARI5xITZAYnMpmt8tjaZ01/s1600/100_2556.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjo_osiLkP7gZ6PeqOgDeAfpooqyof7qhe3DJY8hqCxFEHZxwHibEFH-rjEfjONupirbxGVamLanFF6aSYQE16FPhw1h4Z2ykm0RnFR3cVYsZ-380li4qTEoRARI5xITZAYnMpmt8tjaZ01/s400/100_2556.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Step 5:</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
a. Check fabric shops for bright yellow material.<br />
b. Discover cheap fabric shop has bright yellow material, but it's very thin.<br />
c. Assume expensive fabric shop will have bright yellow material and speed-walk across town after work to get to it before it closes.<br />
d. Find expensive shop has no bright yellow material.<br />
e. Run across town back to cheap fabric shop.<br />
f. Buy material and matching thread.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Alternative method - go to cheap fabric shop and buy fabric and thread.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Step 6:</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Create a Lego version of your husband's head using <a href="http://www.reasonablyclever.com/mini-mizers/mini-mizer-2-0/">this website</a>.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4AGGPOUp5DnFPHEKJCT9fFnGNN5LOqU6zAH9S5vFnOQWDM-0z0ZlZtgUCOg8RWzEF4fVPHGnYe_NMHazriocLvZ61YvVfFD9cB1NiG0YwuLtp9IhjMw2ne7qnoaB-uxig1VGNtFDGpnhA/s1600/head.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4AGGPOUp5DnFPHEKJCT9fFnGNN5LOqU6zAH9S5vFnOQWDM-0z0ZlZtgUCOg8RWzEF4fVPHGnYe_NMHazriocLvZ61YvVfFD9cB1NiG0YwuLtp9IhjMw2ne7qnoaB-uxig1VGNtFDGpnhA/s1600/head.png" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgiAH5aWSuNlUA4h8UfhRT6JidI2J3ensTrFMC79KVoaGo5m8GLnIf9pkVrFhVA2meTHFo8VXnFNFvc5_xgfPfWUKmyBdiQ6cW0Pm6xNSQHNqrux1bGMkTeghWOfGccJOOXz4Wh2Kwg1wl/s1600/heads.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Step 7:</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Do some satin stitch.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Step 8:</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Remember how much you hate satin stitch.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Step 9:</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Remeber how much you love your husband.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Step 10:</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Do more satin stitch.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicyEOC0c0g00jZ5XSkFC3l2Aul1tE_ZxX8uMjJEG_IC8Onpy7Dtgscw5wzXYiEzCA8iiZ3JSBHpfYKwnvtDIDCw4fzns30P5fwoZtGlfLnXAeZQIVt1sEElulVCQQzyL_u5SxaeqJxGXAy/s1600/100_2563.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicyEOC0c0g00jZ5XSkFC3l2Aul1tE_ZxX8uMjJEG_IC8Onpy7Dtgscw5wzXYiEzCA8iiZ3JSBHpfYKwnvtDIDCw4fzns30P5fwoZtGlfLnXAeZQIVt1sEElulVCQQzyL_u5SxaeqJxGXAy/s400/100_2563.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Step 10:</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Appliqué lego head onto pyjama pocket. Realise this will sew up the pocket but decide not to worry as pyjama pockets not known for usefulness. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

Step 11:</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Spend a large amount of time searching the internet for a side-view of a square Lego block. Find none. Take your own photo.</div>

Well, we're now half way through and it's time to check on progress. Here's how I'm doing!<br />
<br />
1. Finish <a href="http://patchworkandpins.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/ribbitt.html" target="_blank">frog</a> project<br />
Lots and lots of progress made. Can't wait to show you guys, but this is a secret project! Here's a quick peek of some squares which will be joining my frog:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqcwuT9mgrRPLNP-48izmNi1SAOebln-0DcXEM3Ybb1TQYL9lcBLhm2DyZPjsK9zVIBdD-sKSu151nK4I-VE0MUgyJwJsIiA9IaOe3eAAtvOuK2owHs9CkMpladSOpmtYlkKHzeZ93-C1R/s1600/100_2328.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqcwuT9mgrRPLNP-48izmNi1SAOebln-0DcXEM3Ybb1TQYL9lcBLhm2DyZPjsK9zVIBdD-sKSu151nK4I-VE0MUgyJwJsIiA9IaOe3eAAtvOuK2owHs9CkMpladSOpmtYlkKHzeZ93-C1R/s1600/100_2328.jpg" width="400" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRvPpkhPjk5WyopfMxZojCOo4IPZt-0k119Z0J99FREW0idL_TFv9yMWhOozwiglbs_Sr8yCt-tHB_2w8MuSnBwce4cuRywwJ6XoXg0St49TTLAmLufmtTtcIKZ7LjxjErX4zuD4lFs33I/s1600/100_2328.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a></div>
<br />
2. Start and finish London project<br />
Only minimal progress made. This one's a 'definitely need to finish' project though, so it will get done.<br />
<br />
3. Start and finish Mouthy Stitches bag and keyfob<br />
Done! I very much enjoyed making the tote and keyring, and I'm very pleased that Sadie liked them.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDJtETmhyW_HgKL6KY3HXUQJ1D74E2vijaMtiK2hj75Xj45g0u09D9XIhOYnogccq4n1m-cU9LJkeB65s9M-q2QyKPJwBKs0YF-6MZJKpM-rYqWResVQ3BGXaKRUad5-G6rgeEx5e6VhUU/s1600/mouthytotereceived.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDJtETmhyW_HgKL6KY3HXUQJ1D74E2vijaMtiK2hj75Xj45g0u09D9XIhOYnogccq4n1m-cU9LJkeB65s9M-q2QyKPJwBKs0YF-6MZJKpM-rYqWResVQ3BGXaKRUad5-G6rgeEx5e6VhUU/s400/mouthytotereceived.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Photos taken by <a href="http://stitchingupastorm.blogspot.co.uk/">Sadie</a></span></div>
<br />
4. Pick out fabrics for a quilt for hubby and I<br />
Discovering I much prefer choosing fabrics in a shop to picking them out online, so I need to plan in some shopping time.<br />
<br />
5. Maybe make some little things for people for Christmas<br />
It's only November; no way I've thought about this yet!<br />
<br />
6. Make my <a href="http://patchworkandpins.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/hope-grows.html" target="_blank">Texting While Sewing block</a> into a cushion<br />
Hasn't happened yet, not completely convinced it will. We'll see :)<br />
<br />
<br />
I'm not sure how much sewing time I'm going to get between now and Christmas because... hubby and I are buying a flat! It's all happened so suddenly, it's the first place we viewed, and now we might be trying to move in before Christmas. Eep! All of a sudden, evenings are filled with mortgages and solicitors and 'can we live with pink carpets or do we want to change them' rather than fabric and sewing. Sad times, eh? I'm still making progress on the (slightly epic) frog project every so often though :) <br />
<br />
Anyway, off to bed for now, I'll be linking up to the half-way point of the hustle tomorrow :)Emmahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15189215587327958567noreply@blogger.com15tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7144893345042373092.post-80505315555975632502012-11-05T21:19:00.001+00:002012-11-05T21:19:37.454+00:00How Exciting!My Orla Kiely quilt has been nominated for Favourite Applique Quilt at the Blogger's Quilt Festival!<br />

If you fancy popping over <a href="http://amyscreativeside.com/2012/11/05/bloggers-quilt-festival-vote-now-2/">here</a> to vote for me, that would be great! It's a bit less than half way down the page, search for 'Orla Kiely Quilt' to find it easily.<br />

I've been meaning to make myself a makeup bag for a while now, but it never quite made it to the top of my To-Do list. So it's really lovely that someone's made one for me :)<br />
<br />
I love the little mini purse as well (you can never have two many mini purses), and look how cute the mirror is:<br />

I could see he had some packages in his arms. I may have got a little excited! He was a couple of houses away, so I let myself in and then waited in the hallway - I live in a top floor flat, that's a lot of stairs to go up and then down again! And sure enough, a package for me popped through the door. Wanna see?<br />
<br />

<br />
When <a href="http://thewoolpalace.typepad.com/">Mary</a> posted a picture of the fabric she'd picked and then the bag she had made, I was hoping it was for me. And it was. Here it is!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEhvRCR0e61OmDnc5pF3s7FAXmejqhLWYfmMydcDTmq9n7Uf9dQKICovSl2AQwolBHvOkgWsG1hyphenhyphenrQ5E98MKDpqskqjeSFFm5B2FkBb9O2PWc8c3ldgkZA0xsID8sZN3CHixQkqYxWI5tt/s1600/100_2488.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEhvRCR0e61OmDnc5pF3s7FAXmejqhLWYfmMydcDTmq9n7Uf9dQKICovSl2AQwolBHvOkgWsG1hyphenhyphenrQ5E98MKDpqskqjeSFFm5B2FkBb9O2PWc8c3ldgkZA0xsID8sZN3CHixQkqYxWI5tt/s400/100_2488.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">My attempt to get a light photo involved han<span style="font-size: x-small;">ging the bag literally on the window!</span></span> </div>
<br />
Isn't it beautiful? It must have taken her absolutely ages, all those tiny little triangles. The colours are outside her comfort zone, but very me - thanks Mary for being willing to take on a challenge! I love how the oranges and pinks she picked go really well together. And I love the beige/natural linen too. Win!<br />
<br />

<br />
My photo of the inside didn't work out so well <span style="font-size: x-small;">(how are people with full time jobs meant to take pretty pictures for their blog in Winter when there's no sun left when they get home?!) </span><span style="font-size: small;">but I ho<span style="font-size: small;">pe you can see that it's lovely :) I<span style="font-size: small;">'ll def use the ba<span style="font-size: small;">g this way round too, well<span style="font-size: small;">, if I don't get it<span style="font-size: small;"> too grubby anyway.</span></span></span></span></span></span> <br />

<br />
<a href="http://amyscreativeside.com/">Amy</a> is running the <a href="http://amyscreativeside.com/2012/10/26/bloggers-quilt-festival-fall-2012/">Blogger's Quilt Festival</a> starting today, so I thought I'd enter my Orla Kiely quilt.<br />
<br />
As anyone who has read my blog before will know, this quilt began back in April with a piece of wrapping paper:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsn_xKoLiTVvNx3O4u4IRFm0OK-FR6Gkym1BRJnAuJe5NUjGm26520WupVj0-oNpKImL2XXwKDwT1HOIWjspvhyHMvGlZPeF_i4egx1LcUQXvLbgrcp_xzYPFS12WOqq1vcPGZ3E_zsA5Y/s1600/100_1188.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsn_xKoLiTVvNx3O4u4IRFm0OK-FR6Gkym1BRJnAuJe5NUjGm26520WupVj0-oNpKImL2XXwKDwT1HOIWjspvhyHMvGlZPeF_i4egx1LcUQXvLbgrcp_xzYPFS12WOqq1vcPGZ3E_zsA5Y/s400/100_1188.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
This was given to me by a lovely friend and mum-to-be as inspiration for making a baby quilt. They weren't planning to find out the gender of their little one, so this would have to be a gender neutral quilt. This was a new challenge for me, as was picking out fabrics by myself rather than using a set from a specific collection. Here are the fabrics I picked:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyzijaBejn7fDeUJcenuE3p-2FkTk-nf01b5VhJ_DnkLgPhgT7UdxuA1YvEcXH2sIzJqvFOsc_c6rbp1S6mRvY_Dxcv66txZBS9CmEiILnKUczlfTl3g4ZiiQeSeoayX06cQrwSjU-YyUi/s1600/100_1190.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyzijaBejn7fDeUJcenuE3p-2FkTk-nf01b5VhJ_DnkLgPhgT7UdxuA1YvEcXH2sIzJqvFOsc_c6rbp1S6mRvY_Dxcv66txZBS9CmEiILnKUczlfTl3g4ZiiQeSeoayX06cQrwSjU-YyUi/s400/100_1190.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm so blessed that I have such a great LQS where I found these lovelies :) They sat on my desk at work after I bought them, and I kept peeking at them and grinning!<br />
<br />
And here's what they became:<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Unfortunately the Autumn weather is not cooperating, so here's my rather lame photo of a hopefully not-so-lame bag :) <br />

<br />
I'm pretty pleased with how it's worked out! As I've said before, the grey was outside of my comfort zone, but everything else is pretty me. I think the thing I like most about it is the hand-stitched detailing on the handles and the back:<br />
<br />

<br />
I'd been planning to try something like it for a while, and the rainbow stitching adds some lovely colour in with the grey.<br />
<br />
Here is the bag's second side:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I wasn't happy with the pink strip I originally sewed, so I'm really glad I changed it. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGWvHfNNESllXL1EFGLtqOG6WhKZlEKJa-pHwAqSgT3TD88ZeRVQICg7vfoB_eEmC5jmb8lrAaZKjiKLKwg6cr6bC15l3x97NTTEa5sHO9n0eRt6B3zriMI3aLBUbonHwVbucubTv_0crC/s1600/100_2467.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGWvHfNNESllXL1EFGLtqOG6WhKZlEKJa-pHwAqSgT3TD88ZeRVQICg7vfoB_eEmC5jmb8lrAaZKjiKLKwg6cr6bC15l3x97NTTEa5sHO9n0eRt6B3zriMI3aLBUbonHwVbucubTv_0crC/s320/100_2467.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The original plan was to have one star in each rainbow colour, but I'm afraid I ran out of embroiderenergy (yes, that's a word) rather too early on. Sorry partner!<br />
<br />
So, all in all, I'd say this project went pretty well :) I made a lined bag for the first time, and managed to complete a sparkle punch (albeit light) project. This is my first swap, and I've really enjoyed the process. I have an awesome partner who's been very mouthy and full of kind and encouraging comments for everyone - win! I really hope she likes what I've made for her. As is always the case, I've been noticing all the slight imperfections recently, here's hoping she doesn't mind *crosses fingers*<br />
<br />
To go along with the bag we had to make a keyring. Here's mine!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFrMwHAjad17SK7u9Nt3TRpthtNj1gnBdSoGSY6HoeQIzxdIugn3U9VoPvIAUSwYi0LSlv_abZ5bK1VE1phAfJ0yacdt1PQR6bJaOBzugecddKs0JxpXFuix0kEoUAmdnvJEhZRL2CyrTQ/s1600/100_2478.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFrMwHAjad17SK7u9Nt3TRpthtNj1gnBdSoGSY6HoeQIzxdIugn3U9VoPvIAUSwYi0LSlv_abZ5bK1VE1phAfJ0yacdt1PQR6bJaOBzugecddKs0JxpXFuix0kEoUAmdnvJEhZRL2CyrTQ/s400/100_2478.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Yes, that is just the back. The front would give away who my partner is. I was inspired to add stuffing/poofyness by <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/flyingblindonarocketcycle/8074776223/in/pool-mouthystitches">Hadley's keyring</a>. So glad I did. It's so cute and squishy!<br />
<br />
Below are a few more pictures, captured in the dying light of 4.30pm on an Autumn weekday. If you fancy browsing the bags others have made (and perhaps taken better photos of...) check out the <a href="http://www.flickr.com/groups/mouthystitches/">Mouthy Stitches group</a> :)<br />

It looked like fun, so I gave it a go. So, here's my entry!<br />

I love the light, fresh feel to the combination. Not very appropriate to the current weather, but hey, spring will be back before we know it! The competition is hosted by Randi at <a href="http://www.freshsqueezedfabrics.com/">Fresh Squeezed Fabrics</a>; I've enjoyed reading her blog '<a href="http://ihavetosay.typepad.com/">I have to say...</a>' too :)<br />

<br />
I'm very busy sewing at the moment. A fair amount of real life is going on too, so things are quite full-on! But anyway, this post is about my Mouthy Stitches progress. You may remember that a long time ago I was planning to try out <a href="http://www.ohfransson.com/oh_fransson/2012/02/sparkle-punch-quilt-finished.html">sparkle punch</a> <a href="http://patchworkandpins.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/starting-sparkling.html">on a cushion</a>. That never happened - there were too many other projests with deadlines! So I was excited to give the pattern a go on a project that would have to be completed on time...<br />
<br />
My original plan was just to have a diagonal line of rainbow stars, so to make sure 7 would fit I made tiny little ones. I then re-read my partner's likes and thought she'd actually like more colour, so full on sparkle punch would be better. Unfortunately with the size I'd picked, that would have driven me absolutely crazy - so much work! So Sparkle Punch Light was born.<br />

<br />
As you can see, I've spaced out the stars to save my sanity! There was still a lot of work to do though, so I was forced into learning to chain-piece. This is where you sew two pieces of fabric together, and then keep sewing onto the next two. I'd tried it once and failed, but with the help of a youtube video, I managed it!<br />

<span style="font-size: x-small;">So pretty!</span></div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;"><span style="font-size: small;">After the front of the bag, I moved onto the back. <span style="font-size: small;">Hoping my partner will like the co<span style="font-size: small;">lour choices:</span></span></span></span></div>

Finally, the lining. The shop didn't have enough dragonfly fabric left, so I found a similar turqouise (part of Just Wing It by Momo). The pieced side of the lining (turquoise with a pink strip) looks far more sickly-sweet than it did in my imagination, so I think I might re-do it. The plain turqouise looks fine :)</div>

One last thing to show you up close - the handles. I really love these! I've been looking forward to trying some hand-stitching like this for a while, and I'm loving the way it looks.</div>

Next up, quilting and then bag construction. Wish me luck!</div>
