I've only been blogging for about two months now so this is all very new to me. So far it's been good fun keeping track of my sewing adventures online. I'm looking forward to growing as a blogger and to hopefully making some online quilting/sewing friends :) One unexpected side-effect has been that I spend nearly as long taking photos of what I'm sewing as I do actually sewing it! I've been making good use of my 'photography studio'. Do you want to see it?
Yup, that's it. A sofa cushion balanced next to our window. It's quite difficult to keep it balanced there! Thankfully my husband is really behind me in this blogging adventure and doesn't mind me taking over the lounge with my sewing and doing odd things with our furniture. Love him very much!
Anyway, ealier this week I had some very exciting post. I've been eyeing up Denyse Schmidt's Flea Market Fancy line for a while now after seeing it used in beautiful projects like this, this and this. As well as big projects, I've also noticed the seeds/eyelet print appearing in pretty much every scrap project I've seen. So when I saw that the fabrics were going to be coming to UK online shops in April, I got very excited! There was a bit of a delay, but eventually they arrived in the shops and I ordered some of my favourite prints.
The package, as it arrived from backstitch.co.uk
This sat on my desk at work all day while I tried to resist ripping it open!

Aren't they beautiful? Love the flowers print, and the stripe one goes really well with it :) I'm not sure yet what I'll use them for. I'd love to make a bag with them, but I'd definitely like to hone my bag-making skills first.
I also picked up a little bit of the seeds print. Looking forward to using this in some scrappy projects. Also wondering about using it as a Christmas tree on a cushion similar to this one. We'll see.
Thanks for popping by :)
Gorgeous fabric! I love Backstitch too, their service is great. Looking forward to seeing what you make with it.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sarah :) I think this fabric might just be sitting around for me to enjoy looking at for a while, but I'll def try to use it at some point! :P
DeleteYes, don't you love that pillow? So cute!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely. I love most of the things Svetlana has made :)
DeleteAhh, that fabric is so pretty. I've been wanting some myself for a while now - haven't splurged yet though! Maybe for my birthday this month. :)
ReplyDeleteI used some birthday money to buy this - definitely worth spending on :)
DeleteLove your photography studio - it's very similar to mine:-)
ReplyDeleteIt does work pretty well, doesn't it? Unfortunately it's not big enough to take photos of quilts on... Will have to find a good way to photograph them at some point!
DeleteI love Flea Market Fancy too!
ReplyDeleteDon't we all :)
DeleteThanks for sharing your photo studio with us! I am also new to blogging (thus also to product photography) and still do not have a fancy set-up like you:) I, too, bought some Flea Market Fancy this last month. Don't know when I'll afford to cut into it...
ReplyDeleteThat is the problem - being brave enough to cut into it. I'm sure I'll manage it at some point :)
DeleteI'm making a FMF quilt for a friend's daughter. Not normally my style but it's growing on me. Maybe you could add an RSS or Google Connect widget to your blog so we can keep up with your adventures?
ReplyDeleteDone :) Thanks again for your help
DeleteVery pretty fabrics. Looking forward to seeing what you made with them.
ReplyDeleteThanks Karen :)
DeleteHaha, we just moved houses and I'm still trying to work out the best photography spot! That and I'm just impatient and hate having to wait for the best time of day for lighting. Happy Small Bloggers' Day! Go us ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm still learning about the 'best part of the day' part. Some of my early photos (not blogged) were taken in bright sunlight and really don't look that great and/or have great big shadows through them! Ah well, I'm learning :)
DeleteI'm always struggling with lighting too! My apartment is more light than most, but still, it's an apartment with all the attendant joys of inadequate lighting. :)
ReplyDeleteMy lounge thankfully isn't too bad, particularly in the photographed corner! Thanks for becoming my first follower btw :)
DeleteIf your want to do some bag making I've got this book: http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Bag-Making-Bible-Customizing/dp/071533624X
ReplyDeleteAnd it's really good, especially as it got lots of helpful sections on general bag making/sewing skills.
I've got fabric to do the messenger bag when I have some time, and I'd done the bag which is described as a nappy/changing bag, but is the most useful bag I've owned especially as I changed some of the pockets around.
If your still in Bath (Which I think you are), then you could borrow it if you'd like a look, let me know.
That would be great :) I've got a few too many projects on the go at once anyway atm, but I'd love to borrow it at some point
DeleteGive me a shout on facebook when you'd like it, I can drop it in for you (I like excuses to go into Bath, as we usually then go and get tea there too :))
DeleteHopefully my names changed now... Didn't remember to update it before!
