A Little Something

I don't know about you, but I am not a very quick sewer (if that's the correct word?!). I'm amazed by people who whip up a baby quilt over a weekend - quilts take me a matter of months rather than hours. So I was quite pleased when it only took 2 evenings to get from "I'd quite like to make something to for so-and-so" to taking photos and wrapping it. Quite an achievement!

Admittedly it was only a zip pouch rather than a quilt, but hey - you've got to start somewhere...

I'm really pleased with how it worked out. I wasn't at all convinced when I'd finished the patchwork and added the embroidery - it looked a bit plain and dull. Thankfully my tub of buttons came to the rescue to add a bit of colour and interest.

I used Ayumi's tutorial to learn how to add pockets to the pouch. So fun! Since I'd made a smaller pouch I only went with two pockets. The lip balm one ended up next to the zip by mistake, so isn't too easy to get to (woops) but the other big pocket is definitely useable.

I'm not sure which of the three pouches I've made is my favourite. The other two are pictured below. Which do you like best?

  1. Hi, I've just found you through the Small Blog Meet. You have a lovely blog and I like all the pouches, but especially the one with buttons and a heart. I have a thing for both buttons and hearts, so it was an easy choice!

    1. Thanks Julie :) I'm developing a love of buttons - they're very useful for adding some extra interest. I'd love them more if they weren't such a pain to sew on!

    2. Have you check to see if you have a button foot for your sewing machine? Mine came with one, haven't used it much but you put it on zig-zag and line the edges with two of the holes of the button (with the button in the special little foot) and repeat for any more holes that you might have in the button

  2. I way being swayed by the green dots - but in the end I have to admit I like the blue squares with the heart and button. So cool that you added pockets! I ought to try that. And remember it doesn't matter how long or quickly you make something - just that you enjoy it. There will always be people that are faster. I know. I've had to deal with it too.

    1. Pockets were much simpler than I thought they would be :) Thanks for the reminder too! Definitely good to remember that sewing isn't a competition - it's about having fun and making pretty things

  3. I love the second one with the flower pattern and the red fabric lining - great work for a weekend! Must be very satisfying. I am also very slow at sewing..
